Weather, alert for Milan and Bergamo: storm and hail risk. Decreasing temperatures

«A violent storm is breaking across the North, affecting Milan and Bergamo above all»: these are the words of Antonio Sanò, meteorologist of Ilmeteo.it. In Lombardy, heavy rains have led to a sharp rise in the levels of the Seveso and del Lambro: the former seems to be under control, the latter still causes some concern. The situation is also critical in the Varesotto. Not to mention the hailstorms in Lombardy and on the Triveneto, Padua, Venice, Treviso and at the moment also in Udine and Trieste.

It was a rainy Sunday, with swollen torrents and gusts of wind, even in Piedmont: a violent downpour, with hail mixed with rain and strong gusts of wind, hit Turin. «A widely unstable period opens. A coming and going of cyclonic eddies it will send numerous perturbed fronts to the North and to the Center with rains, heavy thunderstorms, snow above 2,000 meters above sea level “, continues Sanò, who then warns:” Bad weather from tomorrow also arrives in Lazio, Campania and Umbria “. Temperatures in all the regions involved are falling sharply: “the fault of the Iceland cyclone that usually moves north in June while it is now remaining on the Mediterranean”, explains the meteorologist.

In Milan: «Averted danger for Seveso, concern for Lambro»

The violent storms of the last hours had raised the level of attention on the Seveso, already monitored yesterday with the Lambro after the orange alert of the Civil Protection. “Let’s be ready for the flood”, the city councilor Marco Granelli had said in the afternoon, signaling how the level of the Seveso river had already risen during the day. In the evening, however, the situation settled. Despite the rain, there was no feared flooding. «For the Seveso river ok, escape danger», the commissioner Granelli wrote on his Facebook page, to then add: «There is concern for the Lambro river but perhaps it reached its climax 10 minutes ago and now it starts to go down a lot slowly, but the values are very high ».

Varese: landslides and flooded waterways

The bad weather that is hitting Lombardy in these hours is causing inconvenience and flooding, especially in the Varese area. A landslide, reported the Varese firefighters, invaded the provincial road 69 in the municipality of Laveno Mombello. Some waterways have flooded and the situation is critical in particular in Lavena Ponte Tresa, Cuvio and Cuveglio. A sizable mass of mud poured into Lake Maggiore from the Tresa and Margorabbia rivers. Marchirolo was also hit by heavy storms with flooding of cellars and houses. Some families have been forced to leave their homes.

Roads closed due to danger of landslides

The wave of bad weather forced Anas to close two state roads in Lombardy, due to the danger of landslides. Following heavy rains, state 394 of Verbano Orientale, between km 34.7 and 34.9, is temporarily closed to traffic in Luino, in the province of Varese. The road was closed as a precaution due to the danger of flooding of the Margorabbia torrent. The state highway 233 “Varesina”, between km 54 and 65, in Varese, is also temporarily closed in both directions “due to the presence of debris due to the fall of landslides on the road”. In both cases, the traffic is diverted to the local road network, but the goal is to restore circulation as soon as the weather conditions permit.

Orange alert in Friuli and Liguria, bad weather in the center tomorrow

In the next few hours the meteorological picture is destined to remain severely compromised over much of the North where thunderstorms will continue to threaten above all the hills, the Lombard plains and the Triveneto. The regions of Friuli Venezia Giulia and Liguria have raised, today, the alert level that goes from yellow to orange on most of the basins. Tomorrow, it was assessed by the Department of Civil Protection orange alert on the entire territory of Lombardy and Friuli Venezia Giulia and yellow alert in Veneto, Piedmont, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Lazio, Umbria, Abruzzo, Campania and Molise. The disturbance taking place over much of Northern Italy will in fact arrive from the early hours of tomorrow also on the central regions, especially on the central-western sectors, bringing intense rains, hailstorms and strong gusts of wind.
