We will still have a discussion on the language law / GORDON

He expressed this opinion on October 22 on the air of the “Freedom of Speech Savik Shuster” program on the channel “Ukraine”, answering the viewer’s question about dubbing of Soviet films into Ukrainian.

According to Arachamiya, dubbing films is “a very controversial issue.”

“Once upon a time, even during the previous government, they adopted a law on mova. There is duplication and new quotas, they are added and added every day. We did not have enough political will. We actually persecuted even the nationalist organizations of those people who wanted to weaken these norms, we will have this discussion anyway. I understand your question, your pain. Nevertheless, as long as the law is like this, everyone must live by the law, “said the people’s deputy.

Context:

In July 2019 in Ukraine the law came into force on ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as a state language. According to the law, the Ukrainian language is mandatory for use in state and local government bodies, as well as in public spheres of public life. The law does not apply to the sphere of private communication and religious rituals.

Some of the provisions of the law, including the requirement for the mandatory use of the Ukrainian language in cinema, theaters and museums, will come into force in 2021.

On July 16, the next stage of the implementation of the law started… From this day on, all concerts, shows, cultural, artistic, entertainment events must be held in the state language. Notices, posters, posters, entrance tickets, booklets and other materials about cultural and entertainment events should also be produced in the state language.

How specified on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers, from July 16, all films made in a foreign language must be shown in the state language, and Ukrainian publishers must publish at least 50% of the titles of book publications in the state language. In stores, the share of Ukrainian-language books should be at least 50%.

On July 20, the language ombudsman Taras Kremen published the results of monitoring, according to which six national TV channels of Ukraine continued showing films in Russian.

Non-compliance with language legislation endangers the issue of national security and the defense of Ukraine, says Flint.
