We tested the new Suzuki S-Cross (see also prices in our country) ᐉ News from Fakti.bg – Cars

The updated version of the Suzuki S-Cross is already on the market in our country, our team did a thorough test and the main thing we can say is that we were pleasantly surprised. This car is unpretentious, it does not have huge displays, but at the same time it has 4×4 traction and a pleasant, and above all practical interior.

The updated Suzuki S-Cross Hybrid has a 1.4-liter engine with a power of 129 hp. along with a small battery and 140V electric motor designed to reduce emissions and improve fuel economy. The S-Cross Hybrid we tested came with a manual transmission, which we found to be significantly better than the increasingly popular CVT transmissions.

The S-Cross Hybrid is well equipped, but without unnecessary “pampering”. Features automatic LED headlights, keyless entry and start, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, leather upholstery, adaptive cruise control, nine-inch touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 360-degree camera with bird’s eye view, as well as a full range of safety equipment. In other words, the most necessary for complete safety and comfort, without unnecessary extras that make the car more expensive.

This car, like any other, especially in the mass segment, also has its drawbacks. One is that while the S-Cross looks “smart” in terms of equipment and is roomy enough up front, it can’t match its rivals for rear room. Rear-seat passengers will find little legroom, while the 293-litre trunk is smaller than you’ll find in some compact sedans. But it’s all about priorities.

Some people will appreciate the compact size of the S-Cross, and this SUV certainly is, making it extremely easy to maneuver. Light steering and an agile chassis mean the S-Cross is eager to change direction, the hybrid unit adding just around 73kg to the car’s curb weight (taking it to 1,378kg), helping to maintain an agile feel.

The manufacturer claims that the hybrid system offers a combined fuel consumption of 5.8 l/100 km with the Allgrip mode engaged (this is how the 4×4 automatic system is called). And this, as it turned out, is completely true. The average fuel consumption after our test was (according to on-board computer data) six liters per hundred kilometers. However, the hybrid is slightly underpowered, which makes itself felt in the so-called acceleration. When overtaking, for example, the acceleration involved at a speed of 80 km/h is a bit slow.

However, this is not a big problem in everyday driving, especially in urban conditions. As for the ride, it’s neither too soft nor too harsh. Comfort is decent with the only downside being more body roll in high-speed cornering. but this is something normal for almost all of these crossovers.

Suzuki’s technical partner Toyota has been developing its hybrid technology to offer greater efficiency, but Suzuki has yet to catch up on the hybrid system during deceleration.

The S-Cross doesn’t rely on its battery as often as other hybrids, with the internal combustion engine doing all the work, especially when you’re traveling at higher speeds. It really is a hybrid that does its best at slower speeds and around town.

Bottom line, the Suzuki S-Cross Hybrid is a neat compact SUV packed with all the goodies you need, at a fairly competitive price, and its all-wheel drive option is relatively unique in the segment. Its rivals, on the other hand, offer more space, more extras, but that doesn’t mean that if you’re looking for such a car you shouldn’t pay attention to the S-Cross. The car will certainly pleasantly surprise you.
