We take stock of … Animal Crossing: New Horizons – News, gameplay, updates … – News

Expected on Nintendo Switch, Animal Crossing: New Horizons recently took advantage of a new Nintendo Direct to introduce themselves in detail. Now less than a month of its release, this is an ideal opportunity to make a final point on all the information known about it.

  • The story of Animal Crossing: New Horizons begins with the arrival of your hero on a desert island thanks to a Nook Inc. cruise
  • As in previous episodes of the series, you will have to create your environment in a peaceful ecosystem. It will no longer be a question of managing a small town, but rather a tropical island.
  • A season system will again be available in this section, it will for example be possible to find yourself under snow in winter. The gameplay should logically be affected by these weather changes. The season will also depend on the hemisphere in which you have chosen to locate your island (north or south).
  • Resource gathering, gardening, fishing and, of course, interactions with other islanders should be the main activities of this title.
  • The hero’s home will be a tent this time. It will be possible to decorate it, but also to have objects outside, around the tent.
  • Many buildings will be upgradeable, such as your tent that can be transformed into a house (and which can be enlarged), or the residents’ office managed by Tom Nook. Among the buildings available in the game are a sewing workshop, a furniture store, a campsite and… a museum!
  • So you will understand, the museum will return to the game and you can once again store your discoveries there (like fossils).
  • Events such as fishing tournaments will take place, free updates will allow to add more.
  • Terraforming and the personalization aspect will be more advanced than ever : it will be possible to build bridges, obtain building permits to trace your own paths (by paving roads for example), but also to develop and create rivers and cliffs.
  • You can also freely move your house or local facilities.
  • Itinerant merchants will sometimes come to visit your island: you will be able to collect rarer items from them than from conventional merchants.
  • Several free updates will be regularly offered. The first, available March 20, will be in Easter colors.
  • Figurines and amiibos cards are supported by the game: you can invite the characters to Photopia, another island where you can take photoshoots.
  • Special items can be collected if you also have Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.
  • You will be able to use the Nook workbench to craft objects using recipes. Some tools like the ax can be made this way.
  • An airport is located on the island, it serves as a hub for launching multiplayer modes.
  • You can visit other players on the island. During these visits, axes and shovels will be prohibited, except among players considered as “best friends”. It will be possible to communicate with these friends using temporary passwords.
  • To unlock new content in the game, you can use Nook Miles, points earned when you accomplish certain goals.
  • Nook Miles tickets allow them to take part in mystery excursions allowing you to discover other islands.
  • The local fauna (without counting the inhabitants, obviously) is varied: scorpions, wasps and even spiders will be there.
  • You will sometimes find shipwrecked people on the beach of the island, which you will have to save and welcome.
  • The Nooklink functionality allows you to scan QR codes of patterns from the New Leaf and Happy Home Designer episodes. You will be able to import your previous creations from these games. Likewise, an online chat only exists via this application, which is not available in-game but via your smartphones.
  • The Nookphone will offer several features via an application system imitating smartphones: there will notably be a map of the places, a weather report service, but also a tool to ask a helicopter to recover you if you are lost.
  • Cooperation up to four players will be available locally and online. The camera will focus on the leading player in local mode. On the other hand, if the game is limited to 4 players, it is possible to have up to 8 profiles and therefore 8 different players sharing the same island.
  • You can only create one island per Nintendo Switch, so you’ll have to share it with other player profiles if they’re playing on the same console.
  • The character of Mr. Resetti will no longer have his job which was to annoy players trying to cheat. If we rely on the last Nintendo Direct and the music played at that time, it will obviously be responsible for managing the helicopter to bring a lost player to his home.
  • Backups cannot be integrated into the Nintendo Switch Online Cloud backup. However, a service will be offered to allow you to recover your backup once in the event of a breakdown or problem encountered on your machine.
  • According to a recent tweet from the official Tom Nook account, 383 characters could be encountered in game.
  • A Photo mode will be accessible and will allow you to capture pretty pictures of you and your friends. Filters will also be available to improve the rendering.
  • A Nintendo Switch “Animal Crossing New Horizons edition” will be available the day the game is released.
  • People who pre-ordered the game can already pre-download it : it weighs 6.2 GB and will be unlocked the night of March 19 to 20 at midnight sharp.
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be available on Nintendo Switch on March 20, 2020.
