Tingle Monsters, a new genre short film, lands on Youtube. Directed by Alexandra Serio, it immerses us in the heart of a Youtubeuse live ASMR who finds his community after a long break. The filmmaker intends to make us shiver and by his immersive process denounces the harassment of which some content creators are the victims. The short film, which lasts a little over ten minutes, is quite confusing, especially for those who do not love conversations whispered on a microphone. Despite his very succinct scenario, Tingle monsters manages to get his message across. The process of immersion and double reading with the cat makes it possible to strengthen the suspense at certain times and to convey a message to others. The one who is behind this short film is also in front of the camera and improvises Youtubeuse ASMR. The challenge is met and this short dive into the universe of Tingle monsters is as disconcerting as it is exciting. We had the opportunity to ask Alexandra Serio about her motivations.

Why did you choose to explore the ASMR phenomenon?

I discovered ASMR 4 years ago and I was struck by the way these practitioners see what they do as a healing service, a kind of digital remedy in the age of digital diseases like l anxiety and insomnia. They use this medium to simulate a digital form of privacy. An overwhelming majority of creators of the genre are women, and this type of selfless support seems to be fertile ground for building a narrative that examines how violence against women begins with words.

You wanted to talk about digital harassment …

The aim of this film is to find out how what we think and say about women affects the way they are treated in the real world. I firmly believe that through gender parity and telling stories led by women, we can start to change the world. But we must start by taking a sober look at our current situation.

You choose to make your experience immersive using the visual codes of streaming that we all know. Why ?

Shot in screen format without additional sound editing, Tingle Monsters is designed to transport viewers into a world and a scenario they already know: harassment of women on the Internet. In this sense, I designed the unconventional viewing experience of the film, to anchor it in reality.
