The Corona crisis is forcing domestic art and culture to come to a standstill: Events such as premieres or festivals have been postponed or even canceled, operas, theaters and other cultural stages remain closed until further notice.
Opera, operetta and musical
On the initiative of ORF III Kultur und Information together with Ö1, the ORF RadioKulturhaus and the ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien, TV concepts for three special music evenings were developed in cooperation with the Vienna State Opera, the Volksoper Vienna and the United Stages Vienna strictest safety requirements as well as medical health checks will take place in the ORF RadioKulturhaus. Big names like Anna Netrebko, Jonas Kaufmann, Juan Diego Flórez, Andreas Schager, Rebecca Nelsen, Melba Ramos, Ben Connor, Vincent Schirrmacher and Volksoperndirektor Robert Meyer will be there.

The performances in the sign of opera, operetta and musical were or will be on April 19 and 26 and on May 3, each live at 8:15 p.m. as part of “Erlebnis Bühne”, commented by Barbara Rett, in ORF III and via the classic platform fidelio transfer. The first two evenings will be accompanied live by an ensemble of the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna and a pianist from the Vienna State Opera. Ö1 also broadcast live on April 19, commented by Christoph Wagner-Trenkwitz. “We play for Austria” will be streamed live via ORF-TVthek provided nationwide.

The “We play for Austria” series starts with an evening organized by the Vienna State Opera with popular stars of the opera world: Anna Netrebko with husband Yusif Eyvazov, Juan Diego Flórez, Valentina Nafornița, Tomasz Konieczny, Elena Maximova and Jongmin Park both sing popular Arias from the classical repertoire as well as a personal musical message. Jonas Kaufmann from Germany, Piotr Beczala from Poland and Andreas Schager with wife Lidia Baich from Lower Austria send musical greetings via video playback. Christoph Wagner-Trenkwitz leads through the program in a proven manner.

There is a string quartet by RSO Vienna with concert master Peter Matzka, violinist Jue-Hyang Park, violist Martin Kraushofer and cellist Solveig Nordmeyer. The soloists are accompanied on the piano by the pianist and director of studies at the Vienna State Opera, Jendrik Springer.
Operetta & musical
April 26 is all about operetta: Stars of the Volksoper Vienna present a musical evening with popular pieces by the so-called light muse. The public favorites Johanna Arrouas, Martina Mikelić, Rebecca Nelsen, Ursula Pfitzner, Melba Ramos, Ben Connor, Oliver Liebl, Carsten Süss and Vincent Schirrmacher sing arias and duets by Johann Strauß, Franz Lehár, Emmerich Kálmán and Ralph Benatzky. Volksoper director Robert Meyer gives a Couplet by Jacques Offenbach and gives a presenter through the program and in a contribution behind the scenes of his opera house.
On May 3rd, the musical stars of the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien make their cultural contribution and ensure an atmospheric evening with the most popular VBW musical ballads.
