In the midst of a summer marked by major heat waves and a seventh wave of the Covid-19 epidemic, the head of emergencies at the Laval hospital center Caroline Brémaud drew up an initial assessment of the activity of her department this Monday on France Inter. “The month of July was very complicated since we experienced a heat wave and a Covid explosion. So the mobilization of staff was enormous. Center 15 received more calls than during the Covid period in March 2020. We had a number of visits to the emergency room which was significant, as in the middle of winter. But what is usual in our region, we never have a drop in activity for us, in July.
The month of August begins with a stabilization of the health situation but the Laval emergency room must close for nine nights. During the day, patients arrive regularly departments other than Mayenne, because they haven’t found any other solutions. “We are a little more flexible during the day and we welcome people who are in this wandering. We see people who are able to travel tens and tens of kilometers to have access to care. And it’s not normal.”
For Caroline Brémaud, the population must take “in hand the revolt”
Caroline Brémaud therefore launches an appeal. “The population really needs to take the revolt in hand to express its dissatisfaction because the health system and the public hospital are not the concern of the caregivers. We are all a health user one day, We are most often born in the hospital. Very often, we will also die there, we will spend there and then, in any case, if only for prevention, we need to see doctors. So all our life, we are in contact with health.”
We have to make white health vests, whatever you want, but the population really has to move because this system which is currently degraded will become our norm and we really don’t have to get used to it.
