We know the reason for the death of Robert Szlecht, a diver who died in Gustloff’s wreck

– We already have an expert opinion and it shows that the cause of death was drowning – Patryk Wegner, District Prosecutor in Lębork tells Onet.

Investigators are, however, far from remitting the case. They are now analyzing all the materials, and the public prosecutor’s clerk checks the expert opinion. Prosecutor Wegner does not want to reveal whether and who will be able to hear the allegations in the near future.

Still, it cannot be ruled out that the defendants on the bench will sit on a diving expedition who, together with Szloecht, went to sea and later claimed that they were going to the wreck of a completely different ship. The game may include allegations of failure to provide assistance, false testimony and exposure to the loss of life or health of a rescue team that was looking for a corpse on another wreck.

Their procedural situation is significantly aggravated by the fact that the family of Poznań for seven years did not know what happened to him, making many desperate attempts to clarify this matter.

Robert Szlecht – how he went missing

On June 11, 2019, Onet was the first medium to disclose informationthat the deceased, whose remains were just found on Gustloff, is most likely Robert Szlecht from Poznań. In July 2012, the businessman went on a diving trip with his colleagues. After descending under the water, it did not swim again. His companions later reported to the services that they were going down to the wreck of Terry, one of the ships sunk by the Soviets in 1945. However, his body was not found there.

Gustloff Farm

From the beginning, the family did not play something in this story, because the Poznanian before his departure was excited that he would be going down to the wreck of Gustloff, a German ship on which the largest sea catastrophe in the history of humanity happened. He was sunk near Łeba.

Approaching it is strictly prohibited, because the ship has the status of an underwater grave, as one of three on the Polish sea. For illegal diving there, you can be fined with tens of thousands of zlotys. The close relatives of Szlecht suspect that perhaps because of this his colleagues did not want to say that they were going down to Gustloff.

The family of the missing person lived for seven long years in uncertainty. She asked wherever anyone could check Gustloff’s wreck, but the services had no evidence that the body of a Poznań resident could be there, so they couldn’t send divers there.

The whole story of Gustloff, tragic diving with Robert Szlecht and information about the steps taken by the services can be read in the article “Diver’s remains around Łeba. Probably Robert Szlecht”.
