ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister (PM) of Pakistan Imran Khan revealed that his country is being pressured by friendly countries to recognize the state Israel. However, he did not specify friendly countries that created the pressure.

“We have been under pressure from friendly countries to recognize Israel, however, we will not do so without a fair settlement for Palestine,” he said at the end of last week.

He pointed out that the pressure relates to countries that already recognize the state of Israel. He has not responded to this. “Because of the brotherly relationship that we don’t want to be damaged,” he was quoted as saying Middle East Monitor, Sunday (15/11/2020). PM Khan is considered to be one of the most prominent supporters of the Palestinian cause and has stated in previous interviews that Pakistan will never recognize Israel.

He admitted he was still considering Palestinian goals. “As the will of the great leader Muhammad Ali Jinnah whose soul flew with the soul of the scholar Muhammad Iqbal, may Allah have mercy on them,” he said, referring to previous Pakistani leaders who were pro-Palestinian.

Just to note, there are already several Arab countries that have recognized or established diplomatic relations with Israel. They include, Egypt, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and most recently Sudan.

Saudi Arabia has so far refused to normalize relations with Israel as long as an independent Palestinian state has not been established. However, Israeli officials often publicly admit that the two countries are cooperating in secret.
