We are making a key purchase, news from Pekanov

By the end of 2025, Bulgaria should have 5 medical helicopters purchased with funds from the Recovery Plan. This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister for the management of European funds, Atanas Pekanov, in the program “Face to Face”.

“The project to provide emergency medical assistance by air was an initiative of President Rumen Radev. It was laid out in the Recovery and Resilience Plan last year. We believe that this is an extremely important project, as we are the last country that does not have such a system,” said Pekanov.

He emphasized that this project will move forward in the coming weeks or months.

“At the end of the year, the public procurement must be announced, and at the beginning of 2023, the contractor must be selected,” explained Pekanov.

According to him, by the end of 2025 there will have to be trained pilots as well as the so-called hangars where the helicopters are stored.

“In order to receive our payments from Brussels under the Recovery Plan, we have to report certain results. According to the first payment, we have to implement 22 measures. When we took power last week, we saw that the documents were almost ready for 21 out of 22 measures The latest project is for the modernization of the Ministry of the Interior, and we are working with them so that in the coming days there will be a decision in order to implement this measure,” explained Pekanov.

The first tranche of funds from Brussels under the Recovery Plan is expected at the end of the year, he said.
