The refugee organization expects more Ukrainians to flee inside
The United Nations refugee agency, UNHCR, does not expect large numbers of Ukrainians to leave the country. UNHCR chief Filippo Grandi thinks more people will flee within the country itself, he said in an interview The mirror published on Sunday.
Grandi stresses that war is unpredictable, but it is clear that Ukrainians left behind will need more support. Those left behind are often less mobile or have fewer social contacts in Europe.
It was previously thought that more people would flee to EU countries. This is due to the winter weather and Russian bombing of electrical and heating systems.
Nearly eight million Ukrainians have now sought refuge in European countries.
