Apple finally adds sleep tracking to its connected watch

Sweet dreams with your Apple Watch on the wrist will finally come in handy! With the now publicly available watchOS 7 beta, Apple introduces for the first time sleep tracking features on your connected watch. Failing to be innovative, this novelty fills a void in the range of functions of Apple Watch, which until then cordially ignored the sleep of users.

Long-awaited sleep tracking on Apple Watch nevertheless comes several years after Apple’s competitors added similar features to their own watches and connected bracelets. To pass the pill, Apple can however count on some good ideas, such as the function ” Wind Down “, or “Relax” in good French.

Sleep monitoring … with a few more ideas

As the name suggests, this feature encourages you to relax before falling asleep. For Apple, the idea is to offer you an approach “Holistic” sleep tracking. Your Apple Watch will first encourage you to go to bed earlier or at a regular time, and adopt a healthy sleep routine by minimizing sources of distraction, especially on the iPhone, which will display shortcuts to the alarm clock, quiet music or even a light scene suitable for your connected interior.

The Apple Watch will then go to an off screen, which can be reactivated with a click. When you wake up, the watch can gently vibrate on your wrist and then display important information, such as the date and time, the battery level or the weather forecast for the day. The whole is also supported by a good layer of Machine Learning to learn from your habits and automatically adapt accordingly.

Sleep tracking itself revolves around your different sleep cycles. The data collected while you are asleep is synchronized on the iPhone in order to obtain a weekly, monthly, then annual follow-up, accessible on the Health application.

Apple wants to help you wash your hands properly

Among the other features deployed with watchOS 7, a tool that will help you wash your hands properly during COVID times, and for the recommended 20 seconds. This system works with a countdown, but also thanks to the movement sensors of the watch and its microphone. The tool activates automatically when you get home.

For the rest, let’s remember the addition of new dials, more customization options, and new complications for certain Watch Faces. Some applications may also offer several complications instead of just one with watchOS 6. It will finally be possible to share online, or via the Message application, personalized dials.

Finally, we should note the addition of new sports activities, such as dancing, Core training or the Functional Strength Training. For cyclists, finally, Apple has integrated new features into Apple Maps for the Apple Watch. In particular, it makes it easier to find suitable cycling routes and relevant points of interest for cyclists.
