Watch out! DHF Cases in Tangerang City Increase

TANGERANG – Along with the increasing number of Covid-19 cases, cases of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) in Tangerang City have also increased. The Tangerang City Health Office (Dinkes) recorded 224 cases of dengue fever throughout 2021, while in 2022 as of June this year, the number of dengue fever cases in Tangerang City has reached 331 cases with zero mortality.

“This is a disease that always comes every year and the whole community already knows it. However, it is the public’s concern for environmental cleanliness that must be increased. The reason is that the population density of transmitting mosquitoes is due to the large number of mosquito breeding places, such as puddles of water around settlements. Such as gutters, used tires, cans, bottles, plastic, used glasses of mineral water to hanging clothes,” said Dr Dini Anggraeni, Head of the Tangerang City Health Office in a statement, Thursday (23/6/2022).

He also explained that the Health Office had written to sub-district heads, village heads and schools throughout Tangerang City, to be equally vigilant and pay attention to the increase in dengue cases. It is aimed at increasing the Clean and Healthy Lifestyle (PHBS) movement, working together to clean the environment, and again promoting the one house one larva monitoring program (jumantik).

“All health centers in Tangerang City also have environmental cadres, who move together to residents’ homes individually door to door for socialization to environmental health checks to the house. Currently, what is being intensified is checking up to the office sector. Because of the potential for dengue fever anywhere, it can be at home, school or office,” he said.

He also appealed to the entire community without exception to be more concerned with this dengue case, by carrying out a series of preventions. Starting from draining the bathtub once a week, cleaning all other water reservoirs such as pot containers, installing mosquito netting or mosquito nets, not piling or hanging clothes, using mosquito repellent lotion, trimming and cleaning wild plants in the yard.

“You can also decorate the house using natural mosquito repellent plants. But the most important thing is to always maintain your immune system by exercising and eating healthy and nutritious food,” he advised.

He continued, if the family had symptoms of dengue fever at home, such as sudden high fever for more than two days, red spots appeared on the skin, nosebleeds, vomiting, pain in the pit of the stomach, until the hands and feet were cold and sweaty.

“Actions that can be given are to give lots of water, compress with warm water, give fever-reducing medication, and immediately take him to the Puskesmas or hospital if a more severe condition occurs,” he urged.
