A study by Sensoa, the center of expertise for sexual health, shows that the stigma that still rests on HIV weighs heavily on people who are infected with the virus. “The daily medication and physical discomfort have only a limited impact on the quality of life of people who have HIV,” says Boris Cruyssaert of Sensoa.
“When asked what people need to live better with HIV, 41% spontaneously answered “less stigma in society”. Stigma causes rejection, being treated differently, negative reactions, fear reactions, not just doing it… Almost all people with HIV are very careful who they tell it to and concerned that others will pass it on,” he says.
