Washington ruined Pittsburgh’s perfect NFL record

The Pittsburgh Steelers, which had the best season record of any NFL team to date, suffered their first loss this football fall. The team around quarterback veteran Ben Roethlisberger had to admit defeat to the Washington Football Team 17:23 at home on Monday evening (local time). In the second game of the day, the Buffalo Bills defeated the San Francisco 49ers in their Corona alternative quarters in Glendale, Arizona, 34:24.

The Steelers led almost the entire season, but received a 45-yard field goal from Dustin Hopkins two minutes before the end. Roethlisberger then made an interception, and Hopkins scored another field goal with 17 seconds remaining. The Steelers missed the early play-off qualification with their first defeat after eleven wins. The defending champions Kansas City Chiefs and the New Orleans Saints are still the only play-off participants to date.

The regular season, the basic season before the play-offs, consists of 16 games. So far, all have played twelve games – with the exception of the Baltimore Ravens and the Dallas Cowboys, who will meet on Tuesday evening (local time).

In the modern era of the NFL since the late 1960s, only two clubs have had a “perfect” regular season without defeat: the Miami Dolphins in 1972, which also won the Super Bowl in January 1973 and thus remained undefeated for the entire season, and in 2007 the New England Patriots, who lost to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII.
