Was it the flu or was it corona? An Innatoss test provides certainty

Dorien contacted Innatoss herself. The lines were short, because she knows the director. Due to the lack of corona tests, many people have been ill, but have never heard whether it was an ordinary flu or an infection with the corona virus. “People want to know when they can pick up their normal life a bit,” says Dorien.

Tests available to everyone
Self-tests are unreliable and are even prohibited in the Netherlands. That is why Dorien founded the IMTest Foundation. With the aim of making tests available to everyone. This has now been achieved with the cooperation of Innatoss.

The test, a flat disc with two drop holes, is small and practical and more than 99 percent reliable. With one small prick in the tip of the ring finger, Kim van den Berg takes a drop of blood which is carefully dripped into one of the holes. In the other goes a special liquid. “A check mark indicates whether the test has been carried out correctly. Within 20 minutes we will now know whether there are antibodies in the blood and therefore whether there has been a corona infection.

Testing is no joke
On the Innatoss website, people can register for a test in one of the mobile laboratories the day after Easter. Although Dorien warns that it is ‘no joke’. “We do urge people to only sign up if they have actually had serious complaints associated with the corona virus.”

The test subjects should also no longer have complaints for two weeks. “The antibodies are only visible in the blood after four weeks,” says Dorien. So testing too early gives an unreliable result. In case of a positive test result in the mobile lab, a second more extensive test will follow in the Innatoss lab. Öm very sure that the result is correct. “

Apparent safety
A positive test provides clarity, but no safety for the environment. It is therefore not the intention that people who have already had the virus will live on it because they believe that they can no longer get it. “That would be very selfish,” says Dorien. “You may have antibodies, but you can still transmit the virus.”

“Think about grabbing an infected shopping cart. If you then have tea with your elderly mother and grab the teapot, you can still infect your mother in this way,” says Dorien. That is why she emphasizes that people who have already had the virus must comply with all RIVM guidelines.

Hope and confidence
“It gives hope and confidence when people know they have had it and are no longer a source of infection.” In addition, Dorien emphasizes that it is also very nice to know that you may have gotten away with mild complaints. “This virus is also very scary. People die.”
