Warns of difficult traffic conditions all over Lithuania: it is barely possible to clean the roads when a 10 cm layer of snow is waiting somewhere

The traffic information portal Eismoinfo.lt indicates that the adhesion is poor not only in the sections away from the main roads.

The country’s highways are also snowy. It is indicated that the adhesion is poor and traffic conditions are difficult on the road from Klaipėda to Kaunas and Vilnius, as well as on the highway connecting Panevėžys, Ukmergė and Vilnius.

It is emphasized that in some places the snow layer reaches a depth of up to 10 cm.

Drivers also report the first accidents. For example, two trucks and a car collided in the Panevėžys bypass. It is informed that there are more traffic accidents: when driving from Panevėžys to Vilnius, on the highway, several cars have left the road.

Congestion and accidents from early in the morning

Drivers prepared for work in other cities stress that driving is particularly challenging. The roads are not cleanable, so they are covered with snow, after which there is plickle on some sections.

Even highways get stuck, as you can only move with them at a safe speed. According to Delfi readers, a particularly difficult situation has arisen on the way from Kaunas to Vilnius near Vievis and Grigiškės.

There are also warnings about minor accidents that can result from not following the safe distance and not choosing the right speed.

The snow started another night

The snow, which began on Wednesday evening and is currently continuing, is strong in places, starting in the west and southwest, covering the entire country. Road surfaces of national significance in Lithuania slippery, covered with a layer of compressed snow.

Traffic conditions in Šiauliai, Radviliškis and Vilnius districts are aggravated by plick ice.

“Road maintenance” workers clean and scatter snowy and slippery road sections, but due to the snow, the road surface is quickly covered with a new layer of snow again, so Lithuanian Road Administration drivers are asked to take into account the condition of the road surface and meteorological conditions and to choose a safe speed limit rather than a maximum speed limit.

How to behave drivers?

For road users, it is important to choose a safe, non-permissible speed in such traffic conditions and with poor traction on all roads. Traffic experts point out that in some cases it can be 50-70 km / h, even on a motorway.

Also in the case of poor grip, it is emphasized that no sudden movements should be made: sudden acceleration, sudden depressing of the brake pedal, sharp rotation of the steering wheel. Such behavior can provoke an uncontrollable slip and lead to an accident.

It is also emphasized that if you are afraid to drive and do not feel safe, it is worth staying at home and not driving.

There is rain and drizzle

The air temperature in the morning ranged from 3 degrees Celsius to 2 degrees Celsius.

According to the Hydrometeorological Service, there is a lot of rain during the day: rain, drizzle and snow.
