Warned of speed traps – apprentice has to pay € 1,000 – world

About a year ago, a Whatsapp group was found warning of speed cameras. This is now dearly for a Swiss.

A Swiss apprentice has to pay a curious fine. Because in contrast to the legal situation in Austria, it is forbidden among the Swiss to share warnings about radar boxes. But that’s exactly what happened in a specially designated Whatsapp group.

An apprentice from the canton of Bern had to pay 1,180 francs, the equivalent of around 1,080 euros, because he had warned of speed cameras in said chat group. This is reported by the Swiss “Blick”. The group was blown about a year ago when the police confiscated the cell phones of two speeders. 200 radar detectors were identified and displayed – among them the 23-year-old from Bern.

“Have to work for two months”

He warned about speed cameras 38 times in illegal chat. “In Austria and Germany it is also published on the radio. Accordingly, it was not even clear to me that it was illegal in Switzerland,” he says, according to the report. He is now aware that he has made a mistake – but he finds the fine far too high: “I can hardly believe it. I have to work for two months for these buses”.

The apprentice objected to the penalty order, but did not appear at the hearing without excuse. “I went to vocational school and just imposed it. I thought the appointment was a week later,” he says. Now he only has a few days left to defend himself – otherwise he will definitely have to pay the fine.
