“These steps will help us defeat Russia, destroying its economy, army, and also deprive them of their desire to fight and blackmail the Western world,” the head of the Presidential Office believes.
As UNIAN previously reported, the US Senate unanimously supported the resolution which calls on Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to declare Russia a state sponsor of terrorism for its crimes in Chechnya, Georgia, Syria and Ukraine.
11 August The Saeima of Latvia recognized Russia as a state supporting terrorism. The EU countries called for an immediate halt to tourism and the issuance of visas to citizens of the Russian Federation and Belarus.
Russia is not happy with such prospects. In particular, the director of the North America Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexander Darchiev, said that Moscow threatened to break off diplomatic relations with Washington if recognized Russian Federation “country-sponsor of terrorism”. The Russian Federation said that this would be a “point of no return.”
