In an anticipated move by this means, the governor Wanda Vázquez Garced this Thursday he submitted to the Legislature the appointment of the mayor of Camuy, Edwin García Feliciano for the position of attorney of the citizen.
“I have the security and confidence that due to the extensive experience in government affairs in different positions within the municipal administration and as mayor of the municipality of Camuy, the mayor’s contribution will be for the benefit of all citizens”, the governor said in a press release.
García Feliciano announced last year that he would not aspire to re-election after running the Municipality of Camuy from 1996 to the present.
When he made that decision, El Nuevo Día asked the mayor if there was a possibility that he would accept the position of Attorney General, García Feliciano said that “there is no commitment from anyone on that particular.”
He left the door open to analyze any proposal.
Now, the mayor thanked the governor’s appointment.
“I thank in my name and that of my family, the distinction made by the governor, Wanda Vázquez Garced, when nominating me to the position of Ombudsman, which will be a great opportunity to strengthen the culture of excellence in public service, which Let us advance the causes of Puerto Rico, in the social and economic sphere, in order to aspire to a future of success and progress, for all Puerto Ricans and Puerto Ricans. That is the quality of service to which every citizen aspires, when making a claim to a government agency. In that direction, we will work tirelessly to achieve those goals, ”he said.
The mayor would be filling the vacancy left by former representative Iris Miriam Ruiz, when she turns 10 years old at the beginning of March.
García Feliciano has a Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in Political Science and a Juris Doctor, both from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, it was reported.
García Feliciano is one of the mayors who supports the governor in her aspiration for the candidacy to govern the New Progressive Party.
Other mayors who support Vázquez Garced are Moca, José Avilés; that of Ciales, Luis “Rolan” Maldonado; that of San Sebastián, Javier Jiménez and that of Ceiba, Angelo Cruz.
