New Initiative Bridges Gap Between Journalists and Digital creators
DALLAS, TX - November 11, 2025 – A new program, the News Creator Exchange (NCX), launched today aims to foster collaboration between traditional journalists and self-reliant digital creators, prioritizing ethical standards and skill-sharing in a rapidly evolving media landscape. The initiative, a partnership between WAN-IFRA and the Google News Initiative’s Global News Gaps Project, seeks to address challenges in reaching audiences and maintaining journalistic integrity in the age of social media and platform-driven content.
the NCX program recognizes a growing need for news organizations to adapt to new content formats and platforms, while concurrently ensuring rigorous verification and accountability. It will connect journalists with creators - some of whom already possess journalistic training, others specializing in content creation – offering mentorship and resources to maintain editorial standards. WAN-IFRA will identify and support 150 emerging news voices, providing two years of sponsored membership and mentoring to help them achieve sustainability.
“creators can learn our verification practices, and journalists can learn how to engage audiences in ways the newsroom may not,” explained NCX representative, Jean-François Caulliez. the program will also encourage newsrooms to empower younger staff to experiment with innovative approaches, supported by clear guidelines.
Key to the initiative’s success, according to panellists Esguerra and Lubis, is a reciprocal exchange of skills, with accountability remaining paramount. Those interested in updates from NCX can scan the QR code provided.
