Walkot Depok ‘Sentil’ Using N95 Masks, Tito: That’s for Medical Personnel

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Home Minister Tito Karnavian ‘flicked’ Mayor of Depok Mohammad Idris who imposed N95 mask when attending the Two Million Masks Movement event in Depok, West Java, Thursday (13/8/2020).

In front of Idris, Tito said that the N95 mask should be reserved for medical personnel because the numbers are limited.

This was conveyed by Tito when alluding to the types of masks used to prevent transmission of the virus.

“There are many kinds of masks, the mask used by the Wali is N95, fine is the best. But advice from some experts, because it is limited, should be used by medical personnel who are dealing with positive ones,” said Tito.

The second type of mask is a surgical mask or surgical mask.

This mask is able to withstand 40-50 percent of the incoming particles, but the weakness is not washable.

Meanwhile, masks are the most widely used, namely cloth masks. This mask is considered effective in preventing virus transmission, as well as being washable and reusable.

Tito revealed, according to research, if two people meet without wearing a mask, then both are at 90 percent risk of contracting or transmitting Covid-19.

If one person wears a mask and the other does not wear a mask, the risk of transmitting the virus is 30 percent.

“If you use one mask, the sick wear a mask, the risk is five percent. If you use both, it’s 1.5 percent,” said Tito.

With the results of the research, Tito asked the whole community, including Depok residents, to always wear masks.

According to Tito, because the lockdown is not possible in Depok, what must be done is tolockdown face by covering the mouth and nose using a mask.

“We can’t do it lockdown Depok, imposibble and that we do lockdown face, lockdown our noses and mouths, “said Tito.
