NY.- A waitress from Brooklyn, New York, was fired from the restaurant where she worked for refusing to receive the Covid-19 vaccine.
Since the beginning of February, restaurant workers have been eligible to get vaccinated in the city, but Bonnie Jacobson, 34, told the New York Post that she refused out of fear that it could affect her chances of getting pregnant and so management The Red Hook Tavern establishment fired her.
“It was shocking for me. I went through the stages: I’m hurt, in a state of shock, then I got angry, ”she declared.
Bonnie Jacobson assures that she is not an anti-vaccine person. In fact, she fully supports and celebrates them, but she had plans to get pregnant soon and wants to wait for more research to find out if they won’t affect her fertility.
“Once there is more research to support that it does not affect fertility, I would reconsider my position,” he said.
Although the New York authorities do not oblige anyone to be vaccinated, the Red Hook Tavern restaurant made the injection mandatory for its employees and made it known through an email.
The waitress expected more flexibility and “compassion” from her bosses, but remarks that she will not take legal action against the restaurant. She claims they serve fabulous food and pay well, but now she wants to take time for herself.
Vaccines against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus have not yet been tested in pregnant women, but they have not been shown to be unsafe either.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of the United States (CDC) asks pregnant women to consult their doctor to evaluate the risks and benefits. However, he recommends that doctors and nurses who are expecting a baby receive the vaccine because their risk is high.
