In the main round of the women’s volleyball Bundesliga, the Dresdner SC conceded three clear 3-0 defeats in a row against the current German champions Allianz MTV Stuttgart. And it doesn’t look much better in the final series that is currently taking place.
In the first game, Dresden lost 3-0 to MTV at home last Saturday.

The fact that the Stuttgart women are the feared opponents of the Dresden women despite four bankruptcies in a row does not want their coach Alexander Waibl to stand.
Dresden is not afraid of Stuttgart
“In sport there is no room for fear. If we lose to Stuttgart, it’s because they were better,” he explained in an interview with SPORT1. And the coach denies that his players’ self-confidence could be cracked after the many failures against one and the same opponent: “We are full of self-confidence. Why not. We are playing a strong season and everything is possible.”
And yet the task is extremely difficult for the 53-year-old. In order not to be completely under pressure after the second game of the final series, an equalizer should urgently be found in the second game.
A project that should actually be possible after the performance of the regular season. The Dresdner SC was the absolute surprise. The team around ex-national player and Libera Lenka Dürr got a completely new face for the 2020/21 season. The average age has fallen just below 23 years, the team looks fresh.
The SC still has to struggle with the style of play of the final opponent.
Waibl wants to fight until the last second
“Everyone has problems with Stuttgart when they play at their top level. That is because their physique makes it easier for them to score points from a high ball or against a double block. At the moment it seems that Dresden lacks a means against this very special opponent to prevent a possible title defense. Waibl and his team do not want to and will not give up for a long time.
“We are athletes, if we didn’t believe in our chance, we wouldn’t be where we are: in the final of the German championship. And as long as one team doesn’t have three wins, anything is possible,” he explains.
