Voting guide for New York and New Jersey – Telemundo New York (47)

On Tuesday, November 2, New York City will hold general elections for mayor, city councilors and other key positions.

Unfortunately you will not be able to participate if you are not registered. The registration period for Tuesday’s elections ended on October 8.

WHAT ARE THE HOURS OF THE VOTING CENTERS?

The voting centers will be open from 6 am to 9 pm Visit https://vote.nyc/page/understanding-ballot to locate the center that corresponds to you.

DO I NEED ID TO VOTE?

New Yorkers who are already registered do not need to show identification to vote unless they have not included it in their registration.

However, first-time voters will need to show identification when they register. If you haven’t provided your ID by Election Day, you can vote by affidavit.

WHAT IDENTIFICATIONS ARE VALID?

  • Driver’s license
  • Non-driver identification
  • Last four digits of your Social Security number

If you did not provide a driver’s license or Social Security number in your registration, you can include a copy of any of the following documents with your absentee ballot application:

  • Valid photo ID
  • Current utility bill
  • Bank statement
  • Government check or payroll check
  • Government document showing your name and address

WHAT ISSUES AT PLAY IN THESE ELECTIONS?

MAYOR

Democrat Eric Adams faces Republican contender Curtis Sliwa.

It is also voted for:

  • Comptroller
  • Public defender
  • City Council Members (35 of 51 seats)
  • Borough President of the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Staten Island
  • Brooklyn and Manhattan District Attorney

NEW JERSEY

Unlike in New York, the voting centers will close a little earlier. They will be open from 6 am to 8 pm Visit https://nj.gov/state/elections/vote-polling-location.shtml to find your voting center.

The deadline to register for the general elections was October 12. Here you can verify if you are registered to vote using the New Jersey Division of Elections voter search tool.

WHAT CONTENTS ARE AT PLAY?

GOVERNOR

Democrat Phillip Murphy faces Republican Jack Ciattarelli.

VICE GOVERNOR

Democrat Sheila Y. Oliver faces Republican Dianne Allen.

STATE LEGISLATURE

All 40 seats in the state Senate and 80 seats in the General Assembly are voted on.

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS

PUBLIC QUESTION NUMBER 1

Do you approve of amending the Constitution to allow gambling through casinos and former racetracks or current racetracks, on all college sports or athletic events?

PUBLIC QUESTION NUMBER 2

Do you approve of amending the Constitution to allow all groups that are authorized to play bingo games or raffles to use the net money they raise from those games to support their groups?

DO I NEED ID TO VOTE?

No. It is also not necessary to provide a copy of the identity document to cast a vote-by-mail, except for some first-time voters who would need to be notified.

DEADLINES FOR VOTE BY MAIL

You can deliver your vote-by-mail ballot in person or by mail.

  • Ballots began to be mailed out on September 18, and packages include return envelopes, which must be postmarked by 8pm on November 2 and received by November 8 to be counted.
  • You can deposit your ballot in a secure mailbox before 8 pm on November 2. Locate the mailboxes in your area here.
  • You can also return your ballot in person to the your county board of elections office before 8 pm on November 2.

Please note that a vote-by-mail ballot cannot be returned to the polling place. You can track your ballot in the tracking portal here.
