Vortex Releases First PC Patch for The Last of Us Part I

The PC version of The Last of Us Part I is experiencing technical issues. We also came across some of them in yesterday’s stream. The result is that on Steam today, out of more than 9,000 ratings from players, the title has only 37 percent positive feedback. On Metacritic we still can’t find any reviews from major established media outlets, which in itself is a bit of a red flag in this situation, and customers gave the game an average of 2.3 out of a possible 10.

However, the authors respond to customer criticism and complaints. Not only have they promised fixes, but the first patch is already out. Update v1.0.1.5 is primarily focused on stability, performance and other minor improvements according to the developers. Unfortunately, the feedback on this patch is still not very favorable. The team is reportedly closely monitoring player reports and working on more fixes to come. The authors they aim for example, for slow uploading of shaders, problems with older graphics cards or the inability to start the game even when the minimum hardware requirements are met.

Sony’s fourth biggest launch on Steam

Despite this, The Last of Us Part I is doing very well in sales on Steam. It is among the best-selling games at the moment. In terms of the number of concurrent players at launch, it is the fourth largest game from Sony. The first place still belongs to the hit God of War. At its peak, 36,496 people played the port on Steam. At the time of writing this text, there were less than 15,000 people at the same time SteamDB.

God of War had 73,529 people, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered 66,436 people and Horizon Zero Dawn 56,557 concurrent players. Despite the unflattering start, The Last of Us Part I was able to surpass older exclusives from Sony such as Days Gone, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, Returnal or Sackboy: A Big Adventure.

As you can probably imagine, the internet is quickly filling up with all kinds of jokes and examples of bugs. But perhaps there is no need to specifically point them out, and thus add more salt to the fans’ wounds.

The PC port was handled by Naughty Dog and Iron Galaxy studios. She already teamed up while working on the conversion of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection.
