Tennis player Markéta Vondroušová got married. The 23-year-old Roland Garros finalist from 2019 married her longtime boyfriend Štěpán Šimek, to whom she got engaged last year after the Olympic Games in Tokyo, where she won the silver medal in singles, in the gardens of the Chateau Mcely hotel on Saturday.
“Shimko,” Vondroušová wrote on instagram for the wedding photos. The native of Sokol underwent wrist surgery in May and has not appeared on the courts since then. She last played in Stuttgart in April.
Vondroušová has won one tournament on the WTA circuit so far, in 2017 she won in Biel, Switzerland. She was in the finals four more times, including the Olympic tournament. She ranked 14th in the world rankings.
