Vondrák: Irresponsibility spreads the infection, miners go for beer, some avoid testing

“The situation is difficult for us. The good news, however, is that most people infected are asymptomatic. There are only 28 hospitalized people, “said Moravian-Silesian Governor Ivo Vondrák (YES) on Monday afternoon.

According to him, 186 lung ventilators have been prepared in the region for the most severe cases of covid-19 disease. According to him, if the serious course of the disease increased, the region would have to react. “That would be the reason for the closure of Karviná. Now the assumption is not met, “he added.

According to him, the main reason for the spread of the disease in Silesia is that people do not comply with quarantine. For example, miners like to go for a beer and then the virus in the restaurant spreads to other people. Or people go to work, even if they have mild symptoms such as a cold or fever.

“We therefore call on employers to check their quarantined employees and apply sanctions. We now have a problem with the fact that some miners did not come to our tests. We therefore called on OKD’s management to ensure that their employees were tested, “the governor pointed out.

Testing some boycott

Since Friday, comprehensive testing has been underway at the ČSM-Sever and ČSM-Jih mines. 4300 employees are to be tested. “But so far only 2,750 people have been tested,” said Pavla Svrčinová, head of Moravian-Silesian hygiene. And the numbers are not favorable. According to the governor, it is possible that these mines will also be closed.

Hygienists will now also test miners from another CSA mine. So far, this will only be a statistical sample. If it is found that there are a larger number of infected people, a comprehensive testing will also take place at this mine next week.

“We also have problems with foreign workers in these mines. This does not only apply to people from Poland, but also from Ukraine. Now they will have to have a negative PCR test every 10 days, “Svrčinová explained.

According to her, the virus is spreading from the Karviná region to the neighboring Frýdek-Místek and Ostrava regions for several reasons. “A lot of people commute to work in Ostrava or have a miner in their family. From Karviná, patients are transported to other hospitals outside the district. That is why we have more and more infected people in hospitals, now, for example, in the hospital in Frýdek-Místek. In addition, Frýdek-Místek is a recreational area where there is a lot of movement of people, “said the hygienist.
