(Elbil24): – It is pleasing that we can now further adjust the range figures for the XC40 and C40. The fact that both cars are now available with a range of over 550 kilometers, we believe makes them even more attractive to Norwegian customers, says communications manager Erik Trosby at Volvo Car Norway in a press release.
It is the 2024 models of the C40 and XC40 Volvo is referring to. The start of production is set for the second quarter of 2023, but Volvo has already opened for orders. As you know, Volvo also has the EX90 flagship in the works.

Increased range
Volvo is now moving away from front-wheel drive, and the new C40/XC40 models are therefore only available with rear-wheel drive or all four. The motor on the rear axle must be more powerful than before, and the cars have a new and more efficient inverter.
The announcement that Volvo is now updating the range of the C40 and XC40 comes only a few months after they last made a similar update. Back in December, Volvo increased the range as follows (WLTP):
- C40: 435 km => 533 km (Extended Range)
- XC40: 422 km => 515 km (Extended Range)
Now the range has been increased again:
- C40: 533 km => 578 km (Extended Range)
- XC40: 515 km => 570 km (Extended Range)
The overview therefore shows that the models increase by 45 and 55 kilometres. This also means that the models are approaching 60 miles of range. You can get a full overview here:

When Volvo last updated the range figures, they reminded that they were preliminary figures that could be changed afterwards.
It is now clear that the range will be longer than the first estimates. When the cars are now certified according to the WLTP driving cycle, they have achieved better range figures than the aforementioned preliminary figures previously communicated.
Incidentally, the range will vary with selected extra equipment, wheel size and so on – as with other electric cars.
Increased charging effect
The charging power has also been increased on the 2024 models. The existing ones have a maximum charging power of 150 kW, but this is now jacked up to 200 kW.
As you know, this is the maximum power and typically only applies to a small part of the charging cycle. Volvo does not state the time consumption from 10-80 percent or similar for the time being.
In our own charging test of the C40, however, we saw that the charging power remained above 100 kW all the way to around 50 percent capacity.

Volvo also offers the cars via a subscription scheme for the cars. A 36-month commitment period and the largest battery pack cost NOK 9,690 for the XC40 and NOK 9,790 for the C40.
