Volvo – can stop suddenly

In total, Volvo has to accept 81,950 plug-in hybrids to fix a fault in the engine control unit. Nearly 3,000 cars are located in Norway. The mistake can cause the car’s petrol engine to not start when it should and the only propulsion thus becomes the electric motor. When the battery, which can provide a range of a few kilometres, is flat, the car stops.

This in turn could mean a risk of an accident, according to the EU’s Rapex system, which notified the recall.

Different models

The models affected by the recall are the S60, V60, XC60, S90, V90, XC90 and S90L, all from model years 2022-2023. No other models should be affected. Upgrading computer programs in cars takes around half an hour in a Volvo workshop, says a Volvo spokesman in Sweden.

Communications manager Eik Trosby at the Norwegian Volvo importer says affected owners will be contacted directly by Volvo and the error will be corrected free of charge:

2946 cars in Norway

– Volvo Cars has decided to recall 2,946 plug-in hybrid cars in Norway to correct a potential problem with the engine control unit. The error can in some cases cause the driver to lose propulsion from the internal combustion engine.

– The recall is ongoing because safety is Volvo’s top priority. This is a preventative measure to avoid potential problems in the future. Volvo has not received any reports of accidents or personal injuries as a result of the error, Trosby says.

He adds that customers who have questions about their car can contact their local Volvo dealer or the Volvo Cars Customer Centre.
