CALI, Colombia – peru’s women’s national volleyball team concluded the 2025 copa Panamericana in sixth place, but dominated the individual awards ceremony, securing four of the tournament’s top honors at the Coliseo evangelista Mora in Cali, Colombia, on Sunday.
Led by head coach Antonio Rizola, the peruvian squad saw Esmeralda Sánchez recognized three times, earning awards for Best Receiver, Best Defense, and Best Libero. Teammate Sandra Ostos was awarded Best Service.
The awards followed the tournament’s final match, where the Dominican Republic defeated Colombia to claim the championship title.The Dominican Republic’s Gaila González was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP).
Colombia’s karina Olaya was recognized as the Best Attacker, with Laura Grajales of Colombia earning Second Best Attacker honors. Cuba’s Laura Suárez secured the title of Best Blocker, while Geraldine González of the Dominican republic was named Second Best Blocker.
Mexico also had a strong showing, with Sofía Maldonado earning both the Best Opposite and Best Scorer awards. Argentina UNG (full name not provided) of Mexico was named Best Shipowner.
The final awards tally saw Peru leading with four awards, followed by Mexico with three, Colombia and the Dominican Republic each with two, and Cuba with one. The Copa Panamericana serves as a key qualifying event for future international competitions, including the World Championship and the Olympic Games.
