Golf eHybrid and Golf GTE are the two new plug-in hybrid versions of the family Volkswagen hatchback, developing 204 hp and 245 hp. The battery capacity has increased by 50%, allowing the Golf eHybrid to have an electric range of up to 80 km.
Volkswagen has started selling two eighth-generation hybrid versions of Golf, eHybrid and GTE, which offer maximum output of 204 hp and 245 hp, respectively.
These new electrified variants receive a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 13 kWh, which represents an increase of 50% compared to the generation, ensuring greater autonomy in electric mode.
For the Golf eHybrid, Volkswagen announces an electric range of up to 80 kilometers and up to 62 kilometers for the Golf GTE. E-Mode also enables electric driving on national roads and highways.
The turbo petrol engine starts automatically when higher speeds are reached, depending on the hybrid mode activated, the driving profile and the battery charge level.
From then on, the hybrid economy mode enters into service, which makes it possible to achieve a total autonomy of up to 870 kilometers in eHybrid and 745 kilometers in GTE, respectively, in NEDC cycle.
The plug-in hybrid drivetrain is combined with a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox. On longer journeys, it is possible to maintain the energy capacity of the battery, so that you can then drive in electric mode in a preselected urban center.
Well equipped
Volkswagen eHybrid is available in the Style equipment level. In turn, the Golf GTE receives an independent specification with the equipment level GTE.
In both cases, the standard supply includes the Digital Cockpit Pro, the “Discover Media” navigation system, the user interface. phone portable with induction charging function, traffic sign recognition, multifunction leather steering wheel, comfort sport seats (eHybrid).
The equipment list also includes travel assistance for assisted driving up to 210 km / h (includes adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assistant), front assistance with emergency braking autonomous, automatic air conditioning, start-stop with braking energy recovery, keyless entry.
The Volkswagen Golf GTE also receives specific bumpers, high-end sports seats with integrated headrests and a bright LED strip on the grille.
On the German market, the Golf eHybrid starts at 39,781 euros, while the Golf GTE starts at 41,667 euros. In Portugal, it is planned to sell the plug-in hybrid version with a 204 hp engine and prices starting from 40,922 euros (GTE) and 42,565 euros (GTE +).
More derivatives to come
In addition to the new Golf eHybrid and Golf GTE, the eighth generation of the Volkswagen hatchback family will be enhanced by new sports versions: Golf GTI, Golf GTD and Golf R. The range will also receive a van, Golf Variant.
Mild hybrid engines will also become increasingly important. The new Golf eTSI, the first 48V mild hybrid with 150 hp, is already on sale and by the end of the year it will be available at a new level of power.
