Volkswagen Keeps Testing Anti-Qashqai SUV In South America: Spy Photos

There has been talk of the arrival of the next Volkswagen Tarek for a year, and shortly after its official premiere is taken for granted, the midsize SUV is increasingly exposed. The latest are these spy photos that show him ‘naked’.

From Argentina, a country that will serve as the production center of the Volkswagen Tarek, images were taken from the vehicle while it was off-road testing. This will be a model for emerging markets that already have a namesake in China, and from which its concept is derived.

Until today the news of the new SUV has brought details collected from different sources and the contribution of spy photographers has been important to decipher what it has with its exterior aesthetics. His official name which has been withheld had been said would be revealed in July, but it appears that this month the announcement will be made.

What this last image released shows us is a copy of the Tarek in the test center that Volkswagen installed in the Province of Chubut, Argentina. Without any cloak of camouflage, the vehicle traverses rugged terrain that puts it at test in somewhat demanding conditions.

Stages of commercialization

In other photographs we also saw the new SUV rolling in an urban area, this time with barely camouflage on its front and rear grille. In summary we know that it will be a brother of the Volkswagen Tharu from China, with some adapted settings to the preferences of the South American market.

Currently the midsize SUV that will reach 4.45 meters long and 2.68 meters between axles, is being manufactured in the first pre-series units at the VW plant located in Buenos Aires. At the time of its commercialization, it will be sold in two stages, in which it will offer progressively more powerful versions.

In this regard, the entry variants will be equipped with a Turbo TSI engine from 1.4 liters capacity with 150 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. Six-speed automatic gearbox and front-wheel drive.

Later, in a second stage, the Tarek marked with the GTi insignia that will carry under the hood a 2.0-liter engine for 230 horsepower and 350 Nm. The transmission in the case will be automatic DSG with double clutch and six speeds, 4Motion traction and option to adapt the R-Line sports package.

As soon as the name that the SUV will take is officially revealed, it will be applied to other markets outside of South America, like Mexico and Russia, where it will also be marketed. On the distribution of Volkswagen in Colombia, take it for granted waiting to confirm your import country: or Mexico or Argentina.
