To facilitate recharging of electric vehicles, Volkswagen has imagined a completely new system, with a “ robot attendant “.
It will then suffice to call the latter via a dedicated application, and the robot will take care of recharging the vehicle battery.
A new generation pump attendant at Volkswagen
Volkswagen has imagined a new way to refuel our electric vehicles, with small autonomous robots that go by themselves towards a freshly parked electric car, to charge it. Yes Yes !
Concretely, once your Volkswagen ID.3 is parked (or any other vehicle), the driver only has to call the robot on his smartphone, and the latter will then take care of recovering a removable charging station, bringing it near the car, and to connect it to the vehicle.
Once the recharging operation is complete, the robot collects the energy storage device and brings it back to the charging station. All without any action from the driver.
An autonomous robot, and a 50 kW recharge
The system devised by Volkswagen includes batteries with a capacity of 25 kWh, which are capable of recharging a vehicle at a rate of 50 kW.
For its part, the robot pump attendant operates autonomously, and is riddled with cameras and other sensors. He can thus move freely in the car park, and react to any obstacles.

According to Mark Möller, in charge of the Development section at Volkswagen: “ It is a visionary prototype, which can become reality quite quickly, if the general conditions are good “.
Volkswagen explains that this system can be installed in any parking lot, including underground parking lots. ” Drivers have the choice to park in any available space, regardless of whether a charging station is available or not Explains the manufacturer.
