Volkskrant may fire journalist Arjan Peters | Inland

Peters has been accused of transgressive behavior by several female writers. For example, he would seek personal contact with female authors prior to a review, which is unusual in book reviews where judgment must be formed independently.

To deny

The judge blames Peters for continuing to deny rumors about his behavior towards his employer. For example, he would have said that he had never contacted the writers. This, according to the court, is “demonstrably contrary to the truth.” The judge is of the opinion that DPG Media, the publisher of De Volkskrant, cannot be expected to maintain the employment contract because trust in the journalist has ‘completely disappeared’.

DPG Media has to pay Peters a transition fee of 32,000 euros. Peters announced through his lawyer that he would appeal against the decision. “There is no question of a disturbed employment relationship.”
