On the island of La Palma, the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano, which lasts almost two months, killed a person for the first time. About this on Saturday, November 13, writes газета The World.
According to the newspaper, the deceased is a 72-year-old local resident. A man was cleaning volcanic ash from the roof of a house in the southern part of the island when the structure collapsed under the weight of the ash.
A body with no signs of life was found under the rubble of a building. At the same time, it is necessary to establish what caused the death: a fall from a height or suffocation with toxic gases from the volcano.
As indicated, the area where the victim’s house is located is two kilometers from Cumbre Vieja. Lava miraculously did not burn the houses in it. However, the pillars of ash here rise up to 20 meters in height, covering everything around.
Recall that the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano began on September 19 and continues to this day… About seven thousand people were evacuated from dangerous areas.
In early November, a magnitude 5 earthquake struck the island – the most powerful since the beginning of the eruption Cumbre Vieja.
