VMware Boosts Virtualization with Workstation⁣ &⁢ Fusion 25H2 Release

PALO ALTO, CA – May 16, 2024 ​- VMware today launched Workstation⁢ and ⁢Fusion‍ 25H2, delivering performance enhancements, expanded operating system compatibility, and critical bug fixes for virtualization users. The update aims to empower‌ developers, IT professionals, and home users with a more robust and versatile platform for running diverse workloads.

This release focuses on leveraging​ the latest hardware capabilities⁤ and broadening support for ​emerging operating systems. Workstation and Fusion 25H2 are available now.

Key Improvements in Workstation & Fusion 25H2:

Performance & Compatibility: The update incorporates optimizations to take advantage of the latest hardware features, improving overall performance and compatibility. Workstation⁤ now includes Hyper-V/WHP discovery, providing clear visibility into⁤ the VM’s running mode.

Expanded OS Support: VMware significantly⁤ expanded operating system support with this‍ release:

* ‍ New Guest OS Support: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10,Fedora Linux 42,openSUSE Leap​ 16.0 (RC), SUSE Linux 16 (beta), Debian 13, Oracle⁤ Linux 10, VMware ESX 9.0 (Workstation: ​general, Fusion: Intel systems only), and macOS Tahoe (Fusion: Intel systems only).
* New Host OS‌ Support: Workstation ⁤supports⁢ RHEL 10, Fedora Linux 42, openSUSE Leap 16.0 (RC), SUSE Linux 16 (Beta), and‌ Debian⁣ 13. Fusion⁢ adds support for macOS Tahoe (Intel and Apple Silicon).
* New CPU Support (Workstation): ⁣Intel Lunar Lake, Arrow Lake, and Meteor lake ⁣processors are now supported.

Bug Fixes & ‌Enhancements: The 25H2 ⁣release includes security updates, accessibility improvements, ⁢and targeted bug ‌fixes for both Workstation and Fusion.

* ⁤ Workstation Specific Fixes: Resolved UI issues on Windows related to resizing⁢ and window controls, optimized Linux support bundles, reduced excessive logging from the VMware Authorization Service (vmauthd), added an option to discard VM⁢ suspend states,⁣ and ⁣fixed ​full-screen mode crashes in Linux ‍with Intel GPU​ 3D acceleration.
* Fusion Specific Fixes: Addressed issues with entering dead keys and USB settings persistence (“Plug in Action”).
