Roermond –

Greek Restaurant Irodion in Roermond had to ask the guests in the restaurant on Saturday evening to leave the business immediately.

The restaurant had been ordered to do so by enforcement of the municipality of Roermond. According to a spokesman for the municipality on Sunday, activity was still detected in the restaurant around 8.30 pm, and the case was called with the message that everyone had to go outside. According to the owner of Irodion, the guests were given some time to finish their plates.

According to Irodion, the case was almost full at the time. Everyone could make a reservation for a meal at the restaurant on Saturday. The interest was so great that many people had to be disappointed, according to Irodion. According to the restaurant, everything went smoothly until the municipality intervened. “We had to close immediately and kindly ask all our guests to leave the place,” Irodion said on Facebook. The restaurant has apologized on Facebook for the customers who were forced to leave early.

Empty plate

The guests present were allowed to finish their plates first. The restaurant kept the municipality informed every ten minutes how many people had already eaten and could leave. People who stood at the door because they had made a reservation were no longer allowed in.

Irodion has 190 seats, according to the restaurateur. “We opened at 4:15 p.m. After two years and three lockdowns, we wanted to open one day. But just after 8 pm the municipality called that we had to close. Immediately. My wife managed to get people to eat their meal first.”

No warnings

“The message from the mayors in our region was that we turned a blind eye to activities from the catering industry on Saturday to a certain extent,” a spokesperson for the municipality of Roermond explains on Sunday. “Until 5 p.m. that was okay with us, and there were no excesses either. Most businesses closed their doors around that time. After that time, a few businesses, including the restaurant, were still open. At our request, the restaurant, like the other businesses, then closed the business properly. No warnings have been issued.”

The spokesman for the municipality could not say on Sunday what other business had to close in Roermond.
