THE DATE IS NOT FORWARDED
After this development, the federation officials did not give up. However, the date of the appointment did not change, although the urgency and importance of the situation was repeatedly conveyed to the American authorities. This situation was then reported to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Olympic Committee of Turkey and the Organizing Committee of the World Games. Karate Federation President Aslan Adib Uğuz also made special statements to Milliyet regarding the issue. “This attitude was made to our state, not to the federation or the athletes” said Uğuz, “We completed all the documents and fees required for the visa through a private company six months ago and made our application. Despite this, an appointment was made exactly one year later. Maybe we can get a visa on the date of the appointment, but our athletes will not be able to go to this big organization.” he said.

Emphasizing that this is an organization that takes a quota beyond an invitation, Uğuz said, “We were going to be one of the countries that sent the most athletes. Despite everything, the efforts of our players and the degrees they received were ignored.” When asked whether they will go to the next games, Uğuz said, “First we look at our calendar. If there is a more important organization at that time, of course, we will choose it. The important thing was to go to these games. However, the efforts of our athletes were stolen.” gave the answer.

In fact, the karate branch has made a big boom recently. First, the record that was broken by winning 11 medals in the European Championship, and lastly, our athletes’ standing on the podium 5 times in the 19th Mediterranean Games hosted by Algeria were proof of the new achievements in the World Games.
Especially Eray Şamdan, who won the gold medal in Algeria, and Meltem Hocaoğlu Akyol, who wore the bronze on their necks, would have been in the USA with a high morale if they had gotten their visas.
NOT AN ATHLETE, AN ORDER
In fact, this procedure applied by the American Consulate in Istanbul is the same as anyone who requests an appointment. If any person from Turkey makes the same application, the answer will be the same, that is, a day will be given one year later. However, those who made this application were national athletes. At the same time, although letters were received from the ministry, TOC, and the authorities organizing the events, nothing helped, national athletes were treated as ordinary people.
Ali Sofuoğlu, who had degrees in the World and European Championships and won a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, was one of our athletes who received a quota for the organization.
