Résumé
Located on the small German island of Riems in the Baltic Sea, the Friedrich-Loeffler Institute is one of the oldest virus research centers in the world. Thus, since 1910, several hundred researchers have been working hard to unravel the secrets of particularly dangerous viruses, such as rabies, swine fever, Ebola – and more recently SARS-CoV. -2. The island is also home to twenty different animal species, from cows to poultry through guinea pigs, not to mention crabs and even mosquitoes. So many ways for researchers to study the effects of perpetually mutating pathogens, and thus hope to get ahead of them in an intense time trial.
