Virtual Regatta. A shift in sight for the leading group. Sport

Similarities between the Vendée Globe and Virtual Regatta ! On the Atlantic, it is a beautiful battle which is now engaged between the different groups and the outcome remains very open because the high pressure obstructs the route of the most advanced boats to the north.

The most easterly boats line up on the road opened by CVRL-Nathalie. This is the boat on the highest northern latitude. To the east, much lower in latitude we find the boats which occupy the first places in the general classification. This situation is explained by the greater proximity to the direct route.

This morning this podium is composed of RyzeEleven, bobsailor and Matattack. The strategy for them is therefore to negotiate this beautiful curve under the Azores high with northeast trade winds weakening during the day.

The routing with Weather4D this morning reflects this racing dynamic which awaits the fleet as it wins in the North. Competitors will try to slip into the southwest quadrant of this high pressure area.

This route, with possible arrivals from Saturday January 16, is not as serene as the routes under the GFS model would suggest. A little detour on the global models for Thursday 14th gives a good illustration of the erratic behavior of the high pressures which settle on the Bay of Biscay. The inlet remains under high voltage.

On the Atlantic, the south-easterly trade winds are not yet on the program for the day. The A2 anticyclone haunts once again with its weak winds, the fleet which evolves in its perimeter. He imposes a big slowdown on the boats in the company of Maitre Coq. This situation strongly penalizes the leader of the real race.

This situation benefits runners who follow the paths of the APIVIA or APICIL group. Competitors will be able to rely on the vein of wind which is inserted between these two isobaric figures.

The wind is certainly weakening as it gains in the North, but this allows us to place ourselves in the same dynamic of the boats of the group of Maitre Coq, therefore a very opportune regrouping to relaunch.

For the Yes we Cam or Banque Populaire group, by advancing near the high pressure, the roads are fairly simple for today. Routes to the north for the group with Jean Le Cam and Damien Seguin and routes to the northeast for boats with Groupe l’Occitane en Provence and Banque Populaire. For these last two groups it is necessary to aim for the northeast and reposition yourself on a route to the northwest when the wind shifts to the north northeast.

For the following boats with Romain Attanasio on Pure-Best Western Hotels and Resorts, direct route northeast.

The situation for the boats at Cape Horn also becomes clearer during the day as for the real race. The isobaric dynamic appears much more favorable than for the boats currently engaged under the high pressure to the north. You can already anticipate north northeast routes on the way to the Falklands.
