The video of the golden mountain went viral after being uploaded by the account of Ahmad Algohbary, a freelance journalist who shared it on Twitter.

Mining area
Malenga said the incident took place on a mountain in a village 35 km north of Bukavu, the capital of Kivu, Congo.
The government has sent police to the area to restore order and to collect back the gold that the villagers brought in.
Congo is famous for minerals and precious metals such as gold. The mountain where the looting took place was in a mining area registered with official workers.
Meanwhile, launching from Reuters, South Kivu state Mines Minister Vernant Burume Muhigirwa confirmed the discovery of gold ore had caused a gold rush.
Gold rush
As a result of the gold rush on Monday (1/3/2021) a ban was issued to stop all mining activities in the village of South Kivu.
The Group of Miners, Traders and Members of the Armed Forces (FARDC) has also been asked to leave the mine site until further notice.
Muhigirwa said the temporary suspension of mining activities would be used by authorities to ensure artisanal (traditional mining) miners were registered with the mining regulator.
The presence of FARDC at the mine site is prohibited under the Congolese mining code and is thought to have contributed to the chaos.
Artisanal mining activity is common in Congo.
Mining for artisanal gold is widespread in the eastern and eastern parts of the Congo sea.
