The uploader attached a photo of a chin filled with white freckles. It is suspected that the spots are whitehead.

As of Monday (4/7/2022), the upload has been retweeted by 3,236 users and has been liked by 23,400 Twitter users.

Doctor’s explanation

Responding to this, the Lecturer of Dermatology and Venereology, Faculty of Medicine, Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed) dr. Ismiralda Oke Putranti said the condition of the spots was not whitehead.

“No, it’s not whitehead,” said OK, when contacted by Kompas.com, Monday (4/7/2022).

He explained, whitehead comedo is a blockage of hair follicles due to abnormal production of keratin and mixed with sebum, and covered by a layer of skin above it.

“If whitehead comedo open it will oxidize and turn black so blackhead comedo,“he continued.

Okay to explain, the condition of the spots like the one that is viral on social media is called keratosis pilaris.

According to him, the spots appear due to excessive skin growth in the area around the hair follicles, so that it looks like chicken skin.

As for keratosis pilaris It can appear in both men and women.

He added, keratosis pilaris This is actually a sign of sensitive skin.

“This condition will appear clearer if the facial skin is dry. So in the treatment, it must be diligently cleaned with mild soap and given a moisturizer,” said Oke.

In general, keratosis pilaris considered a variant of normal skin. Many children and adolescents experience this condition and it usually disappears with age.

How to handle it?

2. Skin creams containing urea, lactic acid, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, tretinoin, or vitamin D.
