The world’s best men’s singles Viktor Axelsen make sure you’re absent Malaysia Masters 2022. Opt-in Lee Zi Jia in the event is also doubtful.
Axelsen, who at the weekend sealed the Malaysia Open 2022 title, has already stated that he will not appear at the 2022 Malaysia Masters which starts on Tuesday (5/7) tomorrow.
“When I woke up this morning my body and head told me it was time to rest and recharge before returning to action on the pitch,” said Viktor Axelsen as reported by Stadium Astro, Monday (4/7).
The statement of not playing at the Malaysia Masters 2022 was also shared by the Danish badminton player to his followers on Instagram, via his Instagram Stories.
Besides Axelsenthe competition in the men’s singles sector also does not seem to involve the host player Lee Zii Jia who is the fifth ranked men’s singles player in the world.
Lee Zii Jia has reportedly notified his sponsors of plans not to appear at the 2022 Malaysia Masters.
Prior to the two top names, Danish player Anders Antonsen has also been confirmed not to play at the 2022 Malaysia Masters. At the end of last June, the world’s third-ranked player had already stated that he would be absent from the Malaysia Open, Malaysia Masters and Singapore Open.
Kento Momota, the world’s second-ranked men’s singles player, will be the top seed at the 2022 Malaysia Masters and a strong favourite. The Japanese player is also the defending champion.
On paper, the absence of a number of top players at the Malaysia Masters 2022 could also have a positive impact on Indonesian men’s badminton such as Anthony Ginting (sixth) and Jonathan Christie (eighth).
