Vietnam promotes large-scale ‘high-speed rail construction project’

It is reported that the Vietnamese government is considering a plan to build a high-speed rail project worth up to $58.7 billion.

The Vietnamese government said in a press release on the 14th that it would submit a plan to build a 960-mile, 1,545 km railway to the Politburo next month, Reuters and others reported.

The Politburo is Vietnam’s highest policy-making body.

According to the Vietnamese government’s announcement, the first two sections of 665 km will cost about 24.72 billion dollars and are targeted for operation in 2032.

The completion of the entire segment is between 2045 and 2050.

As a manufacturing hub in Southeast Asia, Vietnam is now increasing investment in transportation infrastructure to support its fast-growing economy, Reuters reported.
