VIDEOS: Samuel García symbolically closes the NL refinery and workers confront him

“Get out Samuel!”, “Do not seek prominence in the oil tankers!”, “You are a non-political influencer” and “We are not a springboard for anyone”, were some of the slogans that were read on the posters raised by the protesters.

Mexico City, August 6 (However) .- Workers from refinery of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) in Cadereyta, Nuevo León, protested against the Senator for the Citizen Movement (MC), Samuel García Sepúlveda, who attended the place to symbolically shut it down.

The Senator came to the place this morning, after announcing on his social networks that he had a document that indicated all the damage caused by the refinery as it was not modernized.

“Today we are at the Cadereyta refinery with society organizations to symbolically close one of the main sources of contamination and disease for Nuevo León. #FiltrosYa ”, he tweeted.

After the official’s statements, hundreds of workers gathered outside the oil facilities with banners that rejected the actions of García Sepúlveda.

“Get out Samuel!”, “Do not seek prominence in the oil tankers!”, “You are a non-political influencer” and “We are not a springboard for anyone”, were some of the slogans that were read on the posters raised by the protesters.

In his Instagram account, Samuel García published a series of photographs of the protesters and specified that he did not want to take their jobs, and pointed out that the intention is to seek the modernization of the refinery so that it does not contaminate the environment.

“It seems that they are already WAITING for us at the Cadereyta Refinery. We don’t want to take away their jobs, we want to save 5,000 lives a year #FiltrosYa ”, he wrote.

“With great respect I want to insist to the Pemex workers that this symbolic closure is not against you and that we do not want you to be unemployed,” he said.

When the Senator arrived at the scene aboard a gray Jeep pickup truck, workers began denying him access and repeatedly hit the vehicle.

Some of the windows of the truck were broken as a result of the blows, so Samuel García had to back down and left the place.

Later, García reported the violent acts on his Twitter account. He explained that the symbolic act is not against the workers, and that he really seeks an alliance with them so that the refinery “stops poisoning the population.”

He added that the lack of modernity in the facilities has to do with the existing corruption in Pemex, which kills hundreds of people due to contamination.

“It is killing us because the money of the Mexicans and the workers has gone to the pipes of corruption of Pemex and its unions, instead of being used to modernize this refinery and have filters to reduce pollutants. #FiltrosYa ”, he stressed.

Despite his statements, social network users and workers rejected the actions of the New Orleans official and pointed him out as an influencer and not as a politician. They added that he only seeks to create shows for people to make it visible.

On August 5, Samuel García called on society to carry out the symbolic closure of the Caderayta refinery in Nuevo León, highlighting that it generates high levels of pollution and that it is even one of the most polluting refineries in the world.

“We demand that the authorities provide resources so that in the Cadereyta Refinery, filters are installed in their chimneys so that the polluting emissions that arise daily from the plant are controlled, or relocated for the good of all. For this reason, we invite you to be part of this protest tomorrow, Thursday, August 6 at 8:30 am at the Cadereyta refinery to close it SYMBOLICALLY, we do not want jobs to be lost or production to stop, all we ask is that filters are put in place to reduce pollution by 90 percent, ”he posted on his Instagram account.

5 THOUSAND DEATHS PER YEAR FROM POLLUTION IN NL // WE ARE BREATHING POISON THAT KILLS US LITTLE BY LITTLE // FILTERS URGENT FOR CADEREYTA REFINERY Air quality in most cities of the world does not reach the safety levels indicated by the WHO , which puts people at additional risk of respiratory diseases and other health problems. Pollution in urban areas is responsible for 3.1 million premature deaths worldwide each year. The polluting effects produce health risks such as respiratory infections, cardiovascular diseases and lung cancer. Under this logic, the less pollution, the fewer conditions and the fewer deaths. Mexico has made different international commitments to reduce emissions through the use of biofuels such as ethanol, however, the NOMs only allow 10% of these to be used. Likewise, only 0.6% of GDP is invested in Environmental Protection Expenses (GPA). Unfortunately in Nuevo León we have 5,000 deaths a year from air pollution. Two years ago, the Cadereyta refinery produced 20 percent of the pollution in Nuevo León and its metropolitan area at 40% of its capacity. Can you imagine now that it’s 100%? There is a bad centrist treatment, the Federation contaminates us with one of the dirtiest urban refineries in the hemisphere; this must change. For this reason, we demand that the authorities provide resources so that in the Refinery in Cadereyta filters are installed in their chimneys so that the polluting emissions that arise daily from the plant are controlled, or relocated for the good of all. For this reason, we invite you to be part of this protest tomorrow, Thursday, August 6 at 8:30 am at the Cadereyta refinery to close it SYMBOLICALLY, we do not want jobs to be lost or production to stop, all we ask is that filters are placed to reduce contamination by 90%. #SENATORE

Because of what happened, Samuel García became a trending topic on Twitter. However, this is not the first time that the Senator has caused controversy on social networks.

At the end of May, García asked Hugo López-Gatell Ramírez not to tell “more lies because they are lethal”, and users of social networks recalled that he, days after saying that the Government of Mexico was making up figures of COVID-19 cases , married with kisses and hugs in Nuevo León.

“Nuevo León will not be able to question Undersecretary Hugo López-Gatell during the meeting with senators, but we do protest on behalf of the Neolonians, we raise our voices and the banner. No more lies ”, wrote García Sepúlveda.

“Is López-Gatell going to open the coronavirus analysis models to independent experts? Will it allow the scrutiny of independent experts or will they continue to report on suspicion of hiding the reality of the country? ”He added on his Twitter account.

The messages were accompanied by a photo with the banner asking to stop “the lies.”

“Better that the New Yorkers question him for marrying in the midst of a pandemic,” said one Internet user. “He broke the quarantine for getting married,” added another. “Hey, but you got married in the middle of a pandemic and had a party,” a woman reminded him.
