Between 400 and 700 “yellow vests”, according to the sources, demonstrated in the city center of Nancy (Meurthe-et-Moselle) at the call of several regional organizations of the movement, Saturday February 6, 2021.
Some tensions broke out in the shopping center, very busy this Saturday afternoon against the backdrop of the Covid-19 epidemic, and the closure of the largest shopping centers.
Denounce the “health dictatorship”
A very important device composed of policemen and of mobile gendarmes was deployed by the prefecture in the streets of the ducal city.
Among the demands of the demonstrators: denounce the “health dictatorship” or even oppose the law “Global security” carried by the government.
Tear gas, arrests and a large security device
Around 3 p.m., the first incidents broke out at the crossroads of rue des Carmes and rue Saint-Jean. Of tear gas were fired, with dispersal of demonstrators after projectiles were thrown at police officers.
Several arrests took place on rue Saint-Dizier or rue du Pont Mouja, according to our findings.
The rest of the demonstration then took place in peace and ended at Place de la République before the entry into force of the 6 p.m. curfew.
“Violent groups”, according to the police
The Nancy police called during the day, on Twitter, the demonstrators to “disassociate themselves” from “violent groups”.
The police device meanwhile was very important this Saturday in the streets. The mobile gendarmes blocked access to the rue des Dominicains, to the Place Stanislas and to the prefecture, areas usually closed to demonstrators. Nearby streets were closed to parking.
A diversely appreciated event
The holding of this new event was not to everyone’s taste, on social networks but also in the streets.
Between traffic jams caused by the procession and the police device or the moments of confusion in the crowded shopping streets, this umpteenth protest Saturday annoyed some.
