Clashes between protesters and the Police have broken out this Saturday in some cities of France during the annual marches on the occasion of May Day.

In Paris, the riot police have fired tear gas at trade unionists who have taken to the streets of the capital. According to the Police Headquarters, ten people were arrested even before the demonstration started.

Lyon Police have also clashed with protesters after a large number of unions and activists tried to march through the city. Footage from the scene shows anti-riot agents trying to force the march with tear gas and baton charges.

The prefecture explained that the police had to intervene to disperse “a group of 200 people” at the head of the march who “used mortars” against the agents. I know informs that five people were arrested.

Crashes in Turin

There were also clashes between the riot police and the crowd in the Italian city of Turin, where the agents had to intervene to prevent the protesters from reaching the City Hall, where official acts were held on the occasion of International Workers’ Day. .

More than 1,000 people with red flags and banners gathered in the city, according to the Italian news agency ANSA. Different marches went through the streets and gathered in a square next to the City Hall. One of the largest posters could read: “Health crisis, social crisis, ecological crisis, to save ourselves we must change the system.” The protesters also made a makeshift guillotine with an effigy of Prime Minister Mario Draghi.

Tension was sparked when protesters tried to break the cordon and police forced the crowd to move away from the City Hall building.

Turkey: tear gas and dozens of detainees

In Turkey, police fired tear gas and arrested dozens of protesters marching towards Taksim Square in Istanbul.

It is reported that at least 100 protesters were arrested during the demonstration.
