Videos available on social networks show a red “Aero L-29 Delfin” plane rapidly losing altitude and catching fire due to impact.
County sheriffs arrived at the scene in Reno, Nevada, later confirming that the pilot was killed in the crash. The incident is currently under investigation.
The Reno Air Racing Association said it was gathering information and suspended the rest of the event shortly after the crash, according to TMZ.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are also investigating.
