Brutal attack in the New York subway: A surveillance camera in Union Square station recorded on Thursday afternoon how a 40-year-old woman waited for the subway. Suddenly a man rushes up to her and pushes her onto the rails – just as the train pulls in. This rolled over them.

“Very worrying”
At a press conference following the incident, Kathleen M. O’Reilly of the New YorkPolice Department said, “Fortunately, she fell on the bed of tracks between the rails.” The police have now been able to identify the attacker. It is the homeless Aditya Vemulapati (24). He was charged with attempted murder and assault. His motive is still unclear.

O’Reilly later described the attack as “very worrying”. Because the perpetrator had previously had no contact with the victim – it was a complete stranger for him. As the broadcaster WCBS-TV reports, the slightly injured woman was taken to the nearby Bellevue Hospital. On the same day she was able to leave the hospital with a few cuts on her head. (bra)
